Just received my 1972 GS650. Good news is the frame and engine match, bad news is the cylinder does not have 750 stamped on it. Also the engine is locked up. More later.
Who sales the liners and the rest that I will need? The top end is apart.Suposed to b. Factory ground off the 653 lettering on the front of the cylinders and stamped 754. Put 750 liners in there with 750 pistons. Had to make 200 for the street market to comply with racing requirements to be able to say they are racing a factory produced road bike.
Don't know a lot either, but this bike has the vin sticker and it has GS650 written on it and the frame # matches the motor so it looks like the barrels got changed, (and they used a standard set of barrels), in the last 39 years some time
The bore size is 653cc, not 750.Going to ask a rookie question here, but my knowledge on the gs is non-existent. Is it possible the 650 cylinders are punched to 750 at the factory? With the motor being seized maybe pull it out and check the cylinder bore size? Just thinking out loud here.
Have you measured the bore? The bore size is 653cc, not 750.
I did measure them. I will get pictures later.Have you measured the bore?
Post some pics of the pistons and bore.
I sanded the tank where the emblems go and do not see any bondo. What should I do?View attachment 194769
Shine a light down the filler at the sides and see if there's any weld seams? If it's clean metal you got a real oddball there.I sanded the tank where the emblems go and do not see any bondo. What should I do?View attachment 194769
You ever figure out the tank oddity Bill?Shine a light down the filler at the sides and see if there's any weld seams? If it's clean metal you got a real oddball there.
