Front fork setup

I am starting a cafe racer build on a 77 xs650. Imlooking to build fairly cheap. I was wondering what the best fork setup on this bike would be. I'd like to take this bike to track days so I'd like it to handle a little better than a 77 model. I have a spare set of forks off a late 90's suzuki gxsr. What are the thoughts on that? Thanks!
