What have you done to your XS today?

I turned a 530 sprocket into a 520 sprocket to get ready for the new primary gears. Going to be geared 18/44 with the high ratio set up.

Stick at it Mr. Pro - we all started right about where you are and the nice thing is that your bike appears to be a complete survivor.

Anyhow - welcome, from Canada’s sunny southern coast in Windsor, Ontario!

Pete

Remember awhile back I picked up this for $50  well, attempts to title it in either OR or WA was such a pita that I ended up giving the frame to a XS chopper guy back in Oregon.
Wheels, Forks, and a couple gizmos were sold so this pile turned into $$$100’s profit :D
Now, all I have is that 81 engine which is becoming a trove of nice spare parts. This Is Fun ! Top End only so far- :yikes:

...and a royal title like the Baron of Baraboo or the Earl of North Buxton.

......and a wife named after an airplane engine.

Thanks Bob. So do I roll out the packing then wrap it around the threads like tape?

No I would cut it to length so it just goes around the pipe without over lapping. Then just kinda push it into that castle nut, right before tightening. It just sorta wads up against the end of the muffler , inside that nut, to seal it all up.

One More Step
PO had cleaned and painted a set of 76 - 77 carbs, but I grabbed a freshly cleaned set of my own when I did the initial start. I was not pleased with them, so I spent half a day dismantling and cleaning the originals.
Hard not to get paint melting spray cleaner on the outside of them.
Now the insides are looking good too and although it seems cold blooded, I think it runs better with these.
Couple things left - mount my freshly fabbed exhaust hanger and find out why the dash indicator for the right turn signal will not light up. I checked the bulbs yesterday so that means tomorrow into the headlight bucket!

Grooves look fine. I would guess it was me installing it wrong. Either deformed it when I put it in, or maybe when I tapped the wrist pin in I pushed too hard on it. The inner one was missing when I pulled the cylinders, and it pushed the piston over which caused the damage.
