What have you done to your XS today?

Thanks.
Today I remounted the centre stand after drilling the mount bolts and tapping in a grease zerk just like the ones on offer from Mike's for 12.95 a piece. In my view, it looks more factory that way rather than drilling them into the stand itself.

After months of scratching my head about why she wasn't running 100% I decided that maybe it WASN'T the carbs for once and took off the points covers to reveal a lot more play in the rotor on my Pamco kit than there should be. Removed the rotor and found the pin on the advance rod had wore a bit of a notch in the side. I have no idea how.
So I shimmed it with a small washer with a notch for the pin and it sits properly in the groove of the rotor.

Guess I'll be ordering a new rotor from mikes unless I can get one direct from Pete!
She is a real ripper now.
Steady spark across all ranges, not just at high rpms.

Got my seat and my springer in the mail today. Engine is back from the cleaners...a whole $30 later haha. Gaskets and seals are on the way. Engine will be going back together soon.

The sun came out here and it warmed up to around 45 so I went for a ride.
I had done all that winterizing stuff to it earlier and ended up riding it after so
I just decided I`m going to ride during the winter on short little 1 hr jaunts
when it gets above 45 or so.

Also did some exhaust work today, nothing quite like juss's. Took my old pipes, cut them off at the first step-up in the flange just after the mounting bolt. Welded the inner pipe to the outer pipe. Kind of an experiment, but I'm willing to try it. Then tacked a straight piece on, and back to the bike garage to see if it fit. Looks nice!

Got one more piece and a baffle to add to it!

Waiting on a parts delivery to finish up my top end rebuild. In the mean time I had the cylinders honed since they were in good condition, and general cleanup of grease, grit & grime. Bought a cheapo harbor freight valve spring compressor to finish cleaning up my head. For 18k on the clock it was relatively clean. Got the valves lapped, and was surprised how simple it was. Except for keeping that suction cup attached to the valve faces...lol. Parts will be in next week and hope to button it all back up soon.

Just dismounted a rear tire from a spoke rim. Crusty, dirty, dried out, bald, and that was just the spoon holder!
The tire was so old it had a 3 digit code - 049 - which may be the 4th week of '99, or '89. My money's on the latter.
Ended up getting one bead over the rim and a rim protector so I was able to cut it with a hack saw.
