Whats your weather right now?

Grey skies but dry. Feels colder than the above!

Cold, sea ice has just started to form, and a light coating of snow on top of that. Farsund, at the southwest coast of Norway.

Another weather update from around 58N 6 degrees 45' E. More snow, more wind, and still below freezing. Spent a couple of hours driving a deck crane at the end of the day. Fingers got cold fast.....

Still cold here. I don't like Winter. But after several days with temps below freezing all day and well below all night, the lying snow has turned to glistening frost crystals. So beautiful. My morning walk, the waning Moon still more than half, light growing in the East, a million diamonds under my feet.

Why do I go out for a walk while it's still dark? Well, it's not fully dark - there's the Moon and also the glow in the East signals that the Sun is about to make an appearance. At the Solstice, next Wednesday, the Sun won't be up till 8:42. Even at midday, the Sun will still be low enough to make you squint and come 15:40 it will have gone again after less than seven hours.

No wonder I look forward to the days getting longer again . . .

34.6918° N is my latitude.
Sunrise 7:01
Sunset 16:52

My birthplace is at latitude 42.0970° N. I'm so glad I could make such a significant latitude change without changing countries.
Oh, wait! New York vs. Mississippi, maybe I did change countries.

I live in central NY state, a few miles west of Syracuse. I'm retired and I drive a school bus part-time for bike money (not kidding) and school is closed today, along with most of the schools around me. We average 10 feet of snow each winter, so we know how to handle snow. So closing the schools should tell you something about what our weather is today.

Yeah ya' did.

Just arrived home, just a smidge below 70N. Right now, a polar low is dumping some snow on us. But early tomorrow morning, I'm jumping on a charter plane to Las Palmas 😁. 2 weeks in the sun, and I hope to rent a motorcycle for a few days there

Good for you! I hope you have a great time while you’re there! 😃

Just got power back on after 30 hours without. 6" of wet snow busted a lot of branches onto wires.
It's been warm, in the 30's then 20's so we had that going for us.
Gotta love wood heat. Only issue was no water, not that big a deal for us (beer) but the horsies go through a lot of water and it was starting to freeze up out there, but all good now.
Got one neighbor still out, long driveway, power lines running through pine trees.
Wires were laying in the driveway when I went to plow him out.

We've got about 8-9" of wet heavy snow in the last 2 days and it's supposed to start to get into the teens in the next few days
And it will be stuck up there on the roof for the rest of the winter now

After a month of 60’s/70’s while visiting family in Texas I have returned to the frozen land of the north. Not a lot of snow(good dusting) but plenty of wind and overcast skies. At least the solstice happens in a few days. By next month we should be able to tell the days are getting longer. I remember when I looked forward to this because of Hockey and frozen lakes. I must have had brain damage………..

Gary I was just thinking about what you said, regarding losing your water while the power was out. Is that because you have a private well?

Yup well water; no power, no water...............
The good news is we have a gas stove so melting snow in pots on the stove worked. Pouring hot water in the automatic waterer kept it from freezing badly, so when the power came back on it was right back in business.
Was also feeding a wood stove for a neighbor that lives in Illinois. We love em all, even the FIBs! :laugh2:
I've been watching for a generator with enough oomph to power the 220 well, could bought one for a decent deal last summer D-oh!
