A Storied Past, I'm Sure
I was able to use a minimum of bondo to hide the repairs of the ding on the top, found couple spots on the left side where previous bondo needed a touch up, but sanding the side brought out this nice lettering in green. Looks like it was a bright blue metallic with silver side panels and lettering on this "standard" tank. Tank is a 76 or 77 with a cap key code 3290.
I've put enough work in it now to want to do it proper so farm tractor red is out.

Yes, I've been holding out on ya. This tank has been on a shelf for a long time waiting for me to get a project done. Well it's gonna be a while yet, so why not get some use out of it? It's probably only a 6 out of 10, nothing special, but looks good at 10 feet.

I gotta say that I’m convinced that my favorite vintage Yamaha street bike decals are 1973 and 1975. No doubt about it.

According to this chart from a Yamaha service bulletin, a 3290 lock will need a 1214 key blank .....

Find your igntion lock number in the chart and if you're lucky, it will use the same blank. If that's true then re-keying the cap lock to use the ignition key will be as simple as switching some of the wavers in the lock around.

Winter Wheat Heading Up
Out for a short loop to Prairie Siding bridge and return, wanted to take a picture of my newly applied pin stripes and saw a farm lane where I could do a pose.
Surprised to see the wheat heading up so soon the corn is only just now sprouting, but then again on the ride a week ago with MaxPete, there were fields of hay waiting to be baled. First cut is normally an early to mid June event.
Probably into my third tank of gas if you don't count the massive leak from both gas taps when I tried to use the refurbished '75 tank, posted earlier. Back on the wall with it for a while.

A litre of 89 octane (pump sez may contain up to 10% ethanol) was $1.672 tonight and it took10.075 litres to fill. Trip meter showed 177.2 km.
So the efficiency of this reawoken motor is 5.69 litres per 100 km. Those numbers I know mean squat to our non metric cousins, so the calculation to US mpg is 41.34 miles per gallon or 49.65 miles per imperial gallon, the latter being familiar to our UK cousins, or Canucks of a certain (old) age.

LP100K Still on the low side?
Was running corn gas in madness on the way to Ozarks. Starting noticing it was getting a bit grumpy, switched back to premium, she was back in fine fettle. Noticed a difference on mileage tween the blends also, premium was better but not per dollar spent..........

Not sure what LP100K means, but I thought the mileage was a bit low. I repacked the air boxes with about 5/16th green filter mesh and wet and wrung out a 50 50 gas oil mix, so it may be a bit rich. Runs nicely, though.

The last tank gave better results - 141 km, took 7.2 litres ($1.76 per for 89 octane) resulted in 45.99 US mpg, 55.242 Imperial mpg, and 5.114 litres per 100 km.
All good.

Yes, low to mid 40's is my usual mileage. I might get a few MPG better if I run a tank mostly on the highway but I rarely do that.

I’m a little over 50 mpg on two bikes. That’s with running all the way through the tank. No sitting between runs.

Since my carburetor tuning is all based upon your guidance, I assumed that to be true. I expect my mpg is about the same as yours.

I'll mention that fuel mileage is another test for your jetting on these CV carbs. If it drops way off, it's a pretty good bet you're jetted too rich. I expect to lose a couple MPG when hopping these up and re-jetting, but not a lot. A drop of 5 MPG or more from what I was getting would have me looking to lean the carbs out a little.
