What Marty posted; you have to push the cover down to remove the slotted aluminum ring.
SOMEWHERE around here there's a pair that's taken apart.
There will be a care box coming your way with more parts I dug out of the bins.
I'm probably not done and didn't ship anything real big yet.

For covered shocks, I built a fitting for my hydraulic press. It has two plates with half moon cut-outs, one welded to the frame, the other adjustable .....

The other fitting with the V-notched strips of plate is for open spring shocks. One of the strips is welded to the frame, the other slides in and locks under it once pressure is applied .....

One of those “you can take a man outta the county but you can’t take the county outta the man” sorta solutions…

Only done it 50-60 times haha.

Not sure it would work with those dust covers on the early shocks (springs might be too tight to get hooks in.
