Hello, just picked this up last week. I've been into building and riding vintage Vespa's for about 7 years but this is my first motorcycle. Looking forward to making this a bike that sees the road allot.

Wow, "the man who can make seats" is definitely an under statement. that seat is stunning! Looks like a wicked fun bike, good job mate!

Really like the look of your bike !

What tank is that? Any additional info on your build?
Hi, the tank's off a BSA D1 with infills added each end, the wheels are Harley with a rear rim laced to a front hub, forks & yolks are Triumph 955i (I think), frame was hard tailed at home, exhausts are home made & the rest was found here & there.

My '73 TX650, pretty stock save for 16" rear wheel, Koni's, fork gaiters, thing above headlight, exhausts, BSA tailight, r/h fuel petcock disconnected for some reason, I presume a leak but it runs okay on one so why fix it?
Recent Pamco hi-perf. ignition, and that certain something that 40 years of being ridden hard embodies.
Has had a lot of chroming done many many years ago but thankfully most of it has peeled back off.
Red metalflake a recent addition when I was painting the buggy in the background I decided to see what it looked like over a black base, came out ok with zero prep!
Won 3 'ratbike' trophies to date, but that was when she was basic black.
Gets favourable comments everywhere we go.
Owned many 650 Yams, some 750 kitted, some cafe, some chopped...XS1B, XS2, XS650, XS650B, and most recently this bike bought in 2008 five years ago, my TX650.

Certainly is a rat. The models had an August to June year so the 73TX was Aug 72-july73. In 74 the whole of the bike, frame, tins, rims, gauges mufflers and internals of the motor, (from a 256 to the 447), was redesigned. Your bike is a 74TXA

Read here for some info on different models

Some sales brochures.

The 70-73 engines compared to the 74-83 447 engines had a longer con-rod and smaller 20mm little end so gudgeon hole on the piston is higher up and the cam chain sprockets on the cam and crank had different amounts of teeth, the cam had a different lift.

check out your engine no to confirm the year

Frames got different too. They added about a gazillion pounds of pig iron to stiffen it up. The steering tube got longer as well. I think the swingarm got a little longer perhaps and the rear shock mounts widened a bit.

I have a '72 frame that I spent a lot of effort fitting a later model 35mm front end to - didn't know about the steering tube difference at the time.

I also added my own bracing based on the Minton Mods suggestions and other resources.
