Here is a more recent picture of my daily rider. I wouldn't really call it a build, but a slow morph over time. Paint or smaller headlight may be next.

Quite the project there moparmorrell. It would be interesting to see what the vin is. Looks to be mostly a standard, with some parts from a special. Notably the exhaust.

I hope that ain't to bad of a thing! I know the engine aint original obviously with the junkyard writing, but ihave the original motor. Dig into that when I get it here. I planning on changing just about everthying so hopefully it wont be to much of a problem. It runs and drives so thats good at least

Out on the road is better than sitting in a junk heap somewhere, it's all your bike!

Still trying to decide if the tank and seat are standard or special. Seat's been recovered.

and those might be older standard side covers.

Gary,

See the holes in the side cover? It's for the emblems on the '79. The '79 standard had a slightly stepped seat. The tank looks to me to be from a Special.

Check the serial number. 1979XS650F2F0 2G62F0-020101Colbalt Blue Your's should be in sequence from this one. It's pretty rare, but I don't think it has substantial value unless restored. A restoration would net you negative results most likely.

Well that is good info to know ill have to check it out. Well the people storing my bike ill have check tomorrow. Curiosity is killing me know! Sounds like my bike is a hosh posh of parts possible:yikes:

No big deal with your plans anyway. When you see yellow crayon like that you know where it's been. I think JM is right the seat and side covers are standard so it's mostly standard with pipes from a special and maybe a tank. Rear turn signals from some other brand. LOL.

This is true! Ill have to post more pics and maybe we can figure out exactly what this thing is lol. Just for s**ts and giggles! Tail lights are from something else tho! What surprise are next? Not that it matters, like you said with my plans it aint no biggie. Mostly using just the engine and frame so whateve:shrug:

A friend had this 1976 xs650 buried in his garage for 10 years, and I didn't know it. Needless, to say, I took it off his hands. All the cleaning and replacing of the parts you would expect has been done. The only thing I did was add the gaitors and replace the handlebars. Next, is to gently remove those knee pads on the tank...then, I'll ride it for a while. It is running very well thanks to the work of KC Cafe Racers.
